MILLER'S VALLEY

Anna Quindlen writes at her best in this brilliant novel about Mimi Miller and her family as they come to grips with the US government’s plan to re-direct a local dam, thereby reclaiming an entire neighborhood which includes the Miller family home. 
 
Quindlen, ever the astute observer of human behavior, writes realistic and entertaining dialogue, with Mimi as her narrator. Mimi brings each member of the Miller family to life: her stoic father, her over-burdened mother, her rebellious brother, and her agoraphobic aunt. The reader can’t help but fall in love with all of them, despite their foibles and eccentricities.
 
I can think of few fictional characters as memorable as Mimi Miller.  She will stay with you long after you’ve finished this wonderful book. (Liz)
