All in Children's Lit

THE WILD ROBOT

In early October, I heard a bit of buzz about a new animated movie called The Wild Robot. Specifically, I heard that it was not scary or overstimulating, but a wonderful story for kids and adults. We were heading north for Canadian Thanksgiving and I decided that in addition to seeing the movie over the holiday weekend, we could listen to the audiobook on our four-hour drive.

PICTURE BOOK ROUND-UP

With three girls home for the summer, our library trips have become even more frequent and we have been bringing home 10-20 new picture books each week. As we read, I’m trying to keep a running list of the books I (and the girls) really love to share with all of you, for your little ones or for great gifts!

BECAUSE

This gorgeous book is nothing like Willems’ famous Pigeon or Elephant and Piggie books. It follows the trail of inspiration from a classical composer to a contemporary concert to an inspired child who goes on to become a composer herself.

IVY & BEAN

A little less than a year ago my oldest daughter Charlotte and I reviewed The Adventures of Sophie Mouse series (read review here) which were the first chapter books we really enjoyed reading together.  It has taken us a while to find a series we love as much, but we are here to recommend the Ivy & Bean series to all of our young book-lovers and parents in the L&L family.

THE ADVENTURES OF SOPHIE MOUSE (Series)

When it came time to start reading chapter books out loud to my daughter Charlotte, we tried a few classics like Charlotte’s Web, Pippi Longstocking and The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe. And although we enjoyed the experience, I found myself having to do quite a bit of editing, both for content and outdated language.
