FURIOUSLY HAPPY; A Funny Book About Horrible Things

FURIOUSLY HAPPY; A Funny Book About Horrible Things

by Jenny Lawson

As the subtitle suggests, this book is a bit of a paradox, but I can honestly say, I have NEVER laughed out loud as much as I did reading Furiously Happy.  I can perhaps blame the intensity of my reaction on pregnancy hormones, but my husband Dan came in to the room several times to check if I was alright to find me crying I was laughing so hard.

Lawson began her writing life as a blogger, posting about the hilarious and difficult episodes of her life resulting from her crazy family, living in Texas, and particularly her depression and anxiety disorders.  Her autobiography and first book, Let’s Pretend This Never Happened, reached the number one spot on the New York Times Bestseller list. (I haven’t read it but I plan to!) Furiously Happy is her second book and deals more directly with her experience with mental health struggles.

The book reads almost like a collection of blog posts, which to some degree I am sure it is.  But each little bite is sweet and irreverent and hilarious.

So how can a book about serious depression and anxiety disorders be so funny?  I urge you to pick up a copy and find out! (Lily)
