THE GUEST LIST

THE GUEST LIST

by Lucy Foley

I believe I picked up The Guest List after Reece Witherspoon chose it for her book club, which was a while ago. And although I’m not usually one for murder mysteries, Lucy Foley and Reece do not disappoint. Engaging and suspenseful as all top-notch mysteries are, Foley also writes well and develops characters I genuinely cared about.

Set on a remote and wind-battered island off the coast of Ireland, the events unfold over a weekend celebration of the marriage between a magazine editor and a reality TV celebrity. All of the guests arrive by boat and as the party gets started, a huge storm rolls in which essentially traps everyone on the island. The narration switches between the maid of honor, the bride, the wedding planner and the wife of the bride’s best friend. As the moment of the murder creeps closer and closer, it is anyone’s guess what these four women might do and to whom.

I don’t want to give away any more of the story and spoil it for you. But if you want an entertaining read with wonderful characters and interesting perspectives on relationships and power, read The Guest List. Besides, who couldn’t use an escape to a castle off the coast of Ireland right now? (Lily)
