THE GUIDE

THE GUIDE

by Peter Heller

Peter Heller has quickly become one of my “go-to” authors. When I see that he’s written a new book, I can’t wait to get my hands on it and read it. And again with The Guide, Heller has written a beautiful, well-crafted thriller.

The book begins with the protagonist, Jack, arriving at his new job as a guide in an ultra-exclusive, very remote fishing lodge in Colorado. From the start, he can feel that something is amiss with the place which caters to billionaires. But Jack throws himself into guiding his first client, a famous, female singer. As the story unfolds, the two form a strong bond and work to uncover the sinister underbelly of the gorgeous lodge, its owners and guests. What emerges is a timely, but very disturbing, discovery of how the wealthy clients are exploiting others to receive questionable medical treatments.

The story will capture you immediately, but it is Heller’s writing that will keep you spellbound. Both a poet and a travel writer, his descriptions of the woods and streams, the skies and mountains and the fishing are breathtaking. If you’re looking for a beautifully written, compelling thriller, you don’t want to miss The Guide.(Liz)
