THE GIRL WHO TAKES AND EYE FOR AN EYE

THE GIRL WHO TAKES AND EYE FOR AN EYE

by David Lagercrantz

I suppose the amazing thing isn’t that I didn’t like this latest (book #5) in the Lisbeth Salander series (the first three books were The Girl with the Dragon TattooThe Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest by Stieg Larsson), but that I’ve hung in there for so long.  Detective/thriller isn’t usually my go-to fictional genre.  But I was drawn into Stieg Larsson’s Millennium series because of the huge amount of press it received.  And I enjoyed those first three books.  Then I was interested to see whether Lagercrantz could continue the series in a compelling way, after the original author died.  I thought his first attempt, book #4 in the series The Girl in the Spider’s Web, did a creditable job.  This time around, I found Lagercrantz's writing formulaic and not very engaging; this was basically a re-hash of all things Lisbeth Salander.  It was a good run while it lasted, but I think it’s probably time to put Lisbeth Salander to bed. (Liz)
