UNTAMED

UNTAMED

by Glennon Doyle

Six years ago when we started L&L, we had the idea to review one book a month that we didn’t really like.  But we wanted to be clear that these were not bad books, just ones we didn’t care for. And so, “not my cup of tea” was born. And this month I’m going against the millions of people who love Untamed, not to say it is a bad book, but to say it really isn’t for me.

I was incredibly disappointed, honestly, because I waited for the right moment to read Untamed. I wanted to read it at a time when I felt like I had the energy to respond to the inspiration it promises its pages contain. And although Doyle’s story is very interesting and she has some good observations about how the world is designed to keep women in their prescribed roles, I don't think she has anything particularly new to say.  I found a lot of the book very repetitive, and although her method of looking within herself seems to work for her, it all seems a bit abstract to provide actual guidance.

Perhaps this is just a case of the book being too built up before I read it, and I would have enjoyed it if I hadn’t heard all the hype. But overall, I would not recommend Untamed. (Lily)
