THE ADVENTURES OF SOPHIE MOUSE (Series)
by Poppy Green
When it came time to start reading chapter books out loud to my daughter Charlotte, we tried a few classics like Charlotte’s Web, Pippi Longstocking and The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe. And although we enjoyed the experience, I found myself having to do quite a bit of editing, both for content and outdated language.
A mom-influencer I follow on Instagram, Paige Fowler (@Food4Tots), recommended the Sophie Mouse series so I checked three books out from the library. Each book is ten chapters, with lots of pictures—perfect to get a few chapters in before bedtime, but still spread the book out over several days. We’ve probably read 15 books so far and there are many more in the series.
Sophie lives with her family in Pine Needle Grove. She loves to paint and go on adventures with her friends Hattie the frog and Owen the snake. She learns something new in each book, but I never find the lesson to be heavy-handed or overly sweet. And the language is challenging enough that we are definitely stopping to learn new words along the way. We’ve even been inspired to make our own mouse house! (Lily)
GUEST REVIEW

When I read Sophie Mouse I think that it’s interesting. My favorite books so far are Forget-Me-Not Lake and The Great Bake Off. I love that they have lots of pictures and that Sophie always does adventures. Sophie is funny and talented and she’s mostly like a person but instead a mouse.
