IVY & BEAN

IVY & BEAN

by Annie Barrows

A little less than a year ago my oldest daughter Charlotte and I reviewed The Adventures of Sophie Mouse series (read review here) which were the first chapter books we really enjoyed reading together.  It has taken us a while to find a series we love as much, but we are here to recommend the Ivy & Bean series to all of our young book-lovers and parents in the L&L family.

In Barrows' series, which is gaining immense popularity due to the TV adaptation on Netflix, Ivy and Bean live across the cul de sac from one another, but are too different to be friends.  Ivy loves reading and wearing dresses, while Bean is more into digging in the mud and playing tricks on her older sister Nancy.  But when one of those tricks gets Bean in trouble and Ivy comes to Bean’s rescue, they begin to realize that maybe their differences can make a friendship interesting.

Each book focuses on one main event or lesson, from a science project on global warming, to exorcizing a ghost from the girls bathroom. Both girls are smart and kind and the way they encounter and understand their world fits perfectly with five-year-old Charlotte's comprehension. (Lily)

GUEST REVIEW
by Charlotte Harper Bodley (Age 5)

Ivy and Bean are so good together. They play together so well. The ghost story was really funny. I think that the series is really good because Ivy and Bean love each other. You should read them because the stories are so funny and Ivy and Bean are girls like me.
