THE GOOD DAUGHTER

THE GOOD DAUGHTER

by Karin Slaughter

I was hesitant to put this book in the “Not My Cup Of Tea” category because it was incredibly popular this year, and was picked as a top book of the year byThe Skimm, whose taste is usually quite similar to mine.  Not to mention it was a wonderful Christmas gift from my thoughtful and talented mother and co-reviewer. But…

As engrossing as this story was, and it did have many good twists and turns, the amount and graphic nature of the violence was much too intense for me.  The book begins with one of the most difficult sequences I have ever read, and just when I thought I'd survived and could move on with the story, Slaughter creates a new and completely unrelated traumatizing and incredibly violent event.

Basically I found myself in a terrible mood every time I emerged from an hour or so with this book, and that’s just not what I look for in a good suspense mystery.  That said, it is well written and a plot like no other I’ve read. So perhaps if your stomach is stronger than mine, you might enjoy it quite a lot! (Lily)
